My son has bad eczema and I%26#039;ve tried everything. We%26#039;re fragrance free, I keep him moisturized throughout the day, I use caladryl for itching and he even has some lotion the pediatrician gave him that is supposed to help. None of that is working. In fact the only thing the lotion the doctor gave me has done is lighten the areas where I%26#039;ve used it; my sons back looks like a leopard. Now I%26#039;m thinking of trying this cream but I wanted some feedback first. Is it good and works well or should I save my money?|||I took my 5 month old to the dermatologist for his eczema. He recommended the following and it has really helped a lot:
1- bathe baby in lukewarm water- warmer water dries out the skin.
2- use cetaphil cleanser and lotion. Use the cleanser only where necessary-armpits, private areas, folds of skin.
3- apply lotion to damp skin, meaning immediately after he bathes, just dab him dry with the towel do not rub, you have 3 minutes from the time his bath is over to get him lotioned up.
4- baths should last no longer than 10 minutes-bathing dries the skin.
5- avoid fragrances such as perfumes, those in fabric softeners and soaps and lotions.
6- apply lotion repeatedly throughout the day.
7- for twisty spots-neck, wrists, ankles, inside of elbows, back of knees, use aquaphor or vaseline, also apply repeatedly throughout the day as it wears off. (My son turns very red in these areas and this helps alot, I prefer the aquaphor, vaseline stains)
8- heat, sweating makes it worse, keep him cool.
9- some foods may cause eczema, depending on the age of your baby you may want to take him to an allergist, my son is allergic to cow%26#039;s milk protein ( had other symptoms too) so he is on a different formula.
The Gentle natures baby eczema cream did not work for my son. I, too, have a bunch of different creams and lotions I bought that did not help.
I am finally beginning to understand that this is a maintenance thing and that I have to make sure to constantly make sure he is cool and moisturized. My mom%26#039;s cat was making him eczema worse, also my dads cigarette smoke, even though he doesn%26#039;t smoke in the house its on his clothes and would bother the baby.
It has gotton a lot better since I started doing all of the above. There is no miracle cure to make it go away as much as I would love it to.
I purposely looked for eczema questions because I know how frustrating it is to watch your little one turn red and itchy. I don%26#039;t like using the cream the doctor prescribed because it is a steroid and not good for long term use.
My doctor told me I can use baby benadryl when he has a bad outbreak and is really itchy, I have not had to use it yet, but your doctor can give you the correct does based on your son%26#039;s age and weight.
If I can be of further hel to you please email me as I completely understand where you are coming from.
I hope some of this helps, good luck and best wishes to you and your little one.|||YES i just gave this advice to another poster earlier.
My son%26#039;s forehead and eyebrows were so broke out, at first the ped said it was cradle cap, but I noticed him scratching it and it was getting very red. Since I have began using it my son%26#039;s head has cleared up ALOT it%26#039;s still a little rough in some spots but you CANNOT see them anymore and he is no longer scratching it. I use it after his bath and it doesn%26#039;t bother him at all.|||we tried every cream under the sun too! then we went to a pediatric dermatologist and he recommended Vanicream. It is over the counter, but I couldn%26#039;t find it. I had to order it on the internet. It has worked wonders for both my kids (baby and 2 year old) Now i have a cabinet full of creams that didn%26#039;t work! :)|||sometimes it works sometimes it doesn%26#039;t. you should try it out and see for yourself.
Vaseline is also very effective with skin problems, including eczema|||YES!!! I love the gentle naturals baby eczema cream. It is a little greasy, but it works.
