The hydrocortisone cream my doctor prescribed me with isn't working on the eczema i've had around my mouth.

The hydrocortisone cream my doctor prescribed me with isn't working on the eczema i've had around my mouth.

I have had eczema around my mouth for two months. When i take a shower it seems to get redder and flakier. So i decided to see my doctor. He prescribed me with Hydrocortisone cream and E45 cream. He told me to use hydrocortisone cream twice a day, morning and evening and if after 7-10 days my eczema does not clear up to visit him again. It's been four days now and I don't see a difference. Should I either:

- Stop using hydrocortisone and start using E45 cream.

- Carry on using hydrocortisone cream until 7-10 days.

- Use both - but how much hours should i wait till i put the E45 cream after i put the hydrocortisone?

And, how can i take a shower without my eczema getting worse... I'm 14, this is my first time getting eczema and none of my family have had eczema or ashtma in their life

- much appreciated.. thanks! The hydrocortisone cream my doctor prescribed me with isn't working on the eczema i've had around my mouth.
You really are not supposed to use Hydorcortisone cream on your face. It can cause a rash and make an existing rash worse. It thins your skin and may cause enlarged blood vessels as well. (See: http://dermnetnz.org/acne/perioral-derma鈥?/a> )

If it is a 1% hydrocortisone cream, you may be okay with that because it is pretty mild, but if it is a 4%, then don't put it on your face. Your doctor should know this. The E45 cream would be fine to use.

Something else you could try...get a new hypoallergenic pillow and a freshly washed pillow case. (washed with a dye/ perfume free detergent.) You could be just getting a reaction from the pillow or the laundry detergent. OR, if you got new make up, you could be having a reaction to that.

The pillow is what happened to me. I went to the doctor for months before I tried a new pillow and it went away in about 3 days after I got a new pillow and new detergent. (my old pillow wasn't old and nasty, it was a fairly new down pillow). I have not had a flare up since I got that new hypoallergenic pillow. It has been 3 years now.

Best Wishes.

EDIT...sorry about the make up option, I just realized that you were male. oops. The hydrocortisone cream my doctor prescribed me with isn't working on the eczema i've had around my mouth.
My son has bad eczema and his dad, my ex, is a doc. Our son uses Elidel cream which works wonders for his eczema. Hydrocortisone cream never did much at all for him either. I believe you can use Elidel on the face, but it is prescription only. A dermatologist would be your best bet however I am sure any doc would prescribe it for you. Make sure you tell the doc that you have followed the hydro cream regimen exactly but still aren't getting results. Remember to also keep your skin hydrated. Within 3 minutes of taking a shower, moisturize the area affected by eczema. This helps, too. Your parents may want to get you tested for allergies since eczema/asthma/allergies are all related, but it is a common condition so don't worry about being the ';only one'; to have it. It is likely some of your ancestors or distant relatives had it, too.
Follow the doctor's directions unless the condition gets much worse. If you have questions about the directions call the doctor. 4 days is hardly time to cure the condition.

There are many causes of eczema. Your doctor has started with the simplest treatment that has the least side effects. There are more potent steroids which the doctor will prescribe in needed.
Wait for he 7-10 day dateline before switching. When did he say to use E45 cream?
